What is on the NAVLE exam?

Each NAVLE form contains 300 scored items. The numbers represent the target count for each category, determined by the ICVA’s most recent Practice Analysis. This analysis is periodically updated to reflect current knowledge and trends in veterinary medicine.

The current Practice Analysis gathered data on various aspects of veterinary practice, including:

  1. Work Context: Understanding the environment and conditions under which veterinarians operate.

  2. Animal Species and Diagnoses Managed: Identifying the types of animals and medical conditions veterinarians commonly encounter.

  3. Clinical and Professional Competencies: Determining the skills and knowledge necessary for successful veterinary practice.

  4. Foundational and Basic Veterinary Sciences: Ensuring veterinarians have the essential scientific knowledge to perform their duties effectively.

These characteristics are crucial for designing the examination blueprint and overall context of the NAVLE. For more details, visit the NAVLE Practice Analysis or Executive Summary.
