New biomarker of acute kidney injury in dogs.

Researchers evaluated Urine neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) in dogs with acute kidney injury. The study evaluated 76 dogs with acute kidney injury and 10 healthy ones.

The results showed that urinary NGAL was significantly higher in dogs with acute injury when compared to controls. Urinary NGAL was significantly higher in dogs with inflammatory injury, but there was no difference with cases of sepsis or for patient outcome.
