Three tips for long distance dating

Dating in this modern world can be difficult and trying when two people live under the same roof! Now imagine being a six-hour flight away from one another – trust me it isn’t any easier. Sometimes life doesn’t always go exactly the way you planned and distance between you and your loved one might become a reality. These are my top three tips to succeeding in a long-distance relationship.

Communication

Say it again for those back-row seaters! Communication is the golden standard, even for couples that live together or thousands of miles apart. It is always best to be open and upfront about your needs and wants out of a relationship from a partner. I don’t want to be a mind reader and I wouldn’t expect my boyfriend to be one either! It also builds a sense of intimacy and comfortability when you can be vulnerable and talk about the things that truly matter to you and what you need to keep each other happy.

Maintain trust

Trust is built by a mutual respect for one another in that both of you will be honest and uphold the integrity of the bond that you initiated together. A key component of trust is that it slowly builds over time from repeated behaviors that reinforce the importance of the relationship in the eyes of both partners. This mutual trust will be the framework with which you can build a solid foundation that will support both of you throughout entire your relationship.

Work towards reuniting

Long-distance, is in itself, a brave and immense undertaking that is not for the faint of heart. One of the best things to make any distance more tolerable is when both partners actively invest efforts into reducing the time that is necessary for their separation. It is important to create a future plan together in which a union of your circumstances can be achieved and when the distance is no longer required.

I hope that a phase of long distance doesn’t separate you and your partner from a life of happiness and fulfillment together. You should know that it can be done, successfully, with equal efforts from both individuals that focus on supporting and loving one another, even when physical distance cannot be obtained, they are always present in your heart.
